Homage to Count Basie is a tribute to the legacy the Count left us. I recorded 5 signature Basie tunes and composed three original tunes, two in the style of the Basie sound, and one which combines a funk sensibility with an undertone of the Basie sense of swing. The music stays close to the original
feel, but also incorporates more modern harmonic, and in some cases rhythmical devices. Wherever possible, I tried to "Mintzerize" the music to avoid it being just a blatant copy of the original.
