Yellowjackets appear on the tracks "Market Street" and "Ballad of the Whale". These two tracks are available on the soundtrack album (MCA-6195), and also on a promotional 12" single (MCA L33-17251). Circa 1986. These two tracks are two of the best-known non-album tracks the group has recorded. "Market Street" appears in the Star Trek IV movie as Captain Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise entourage make their appearance in the middle of San Francisco's Market Street circa the late 1980's. "Ballad Of The Whale" has an interesting story: this version does not appear in the movie, but it was an arrangement of a classical fugue composed by Leonard Rosenman for the film. Jimmy Haslip says, "Russell came up with the idea to re-arrange an already existing piece from the score." The Jackets put together an arrangement of the song in the studio." It was included on the soundtrack CD "...and has become a Yellowjackets classic of sorts" that has received a lot of airplay, Jimmy adds.
